We have observed that local businesses  had a little or no knowledge about digital marketing. A lot of people had started giving information or advice about digital marketing which is not correct and may hamper your progress. Half knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge. Lets understand what is Social Media, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Content Marketing and how we can effectively use them in our current marketing strategy.

Social Media

Social Media has 2 variants social media marketing (SMM) and social media optimization (SMO). Before moving further first understand what social media is all about. Social Media means the platform where a group of people came together and hangout. Examples of social media are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram etc. In India social media platforms Facebook, LinkedIn and Whatsapp are very famous. Facebook and Whatsapp are used by the people of all demographics whereas LinkedIn is very popular for professional or work related networking.

Social Media Marketing (SMM)

Social Media Marketing consists of paid advertising done on social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter. Social Media Ad blends flawlessly on your prospects social media feed. I mean facebook has a wall, twitter has a feed. If Social Media Ads are targeted towards right customer base at right time gives a lot better ROI than Search Engine Ads. Well it differs from business domain to domain. So find out on what social media platform your prospects are hanging out, understand what they like, their demographics and then try to connect with them emotionally.

Social Media Optimization (SMO)

Social Media Optimization is all about interacting and engaging with your audience. SMO is all about staying in touch with your target audience without interrupting and irritating them. SMO helps you in building trust and helps in re-engaging and retaining your customers.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization as we all know is about optimizing websites for search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. Google keeps changing their search related algorithm from time to time and keeps surprising people like us. Its seems that meta tags are not that useful anymore. It seems that google gives more weight to Click Through Rate (CTR), Bounce Rate (user friendliness) and a lot of new parameters came into the play.

Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

Search Engine Marketing means using paid ads on search engines like Google and Bing to attract customers to your website. Most of the time you will be paying per click for such ads and hence they are also called as PPC. When you are starting up or starting a new marketing campaign then SEM can play a important role in it.

Content Marketing

Content Marketing which is also known as Inbound Marketing is a new buzz word in the industry. Well Content Marketing is not new but yes new technological development had made it more powerful and effective. Content Marketing is means providing valuable information to your target audience which is interesting, entertaining and adds knowledge. This is done without interrupting and distracting your customer. Its more about educating your prospect and helping them take the right decision.

Content Marketing takes time to bring in results but if done consistently, it delivers huge results. Now lets assume that you have written a really nice, entertaining content but what if you have no reader for it. This is where Social Media and SEO comes into the picture. If SEO is done correctly for the content written then it will drive traffic through search engines in the future. Also use social media to promote your content. Make sure you have proper Call to Action (CTA) on your page to bring the reader on board by subscribing or purchasing the product or call you to know more.

Do not use Social Media only to promote your content but also to interact and engage with your customer base. Try to create a repo. You should integrate all to get better results. Understand the power of each medium and act. Lets use new platforms, technologies and mediums to increase business.
